Paolo Scavino
Paolo Scavino is a Piedmontese winemaker based in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Langa del Barolo. Born in 1921, he has built his reputation around Nebbiolo and his understanding of the various geographical sub-regions within the appellation, with vineyards spread across some of the area’s most representative municipalities. This presence across different territories allows him to work with distinct soil and climate nuances, ranging from the most delicate and aromatic exposures to areas capable of imparting structure, depth and tension to the wine.
The winemaking approach prioritises the quality of the grapes and careful management of the raw material, with the aim of preserving the character of each terroir in the glass. In the winery, the philosophy is characterised by measured and pragmatic interventions: the plots are interpreted with care, avoiding stylistic excesses and seeking a balance between technical precision, Langhe tradition and contemporary sensibility. Barolo remains the most recognisable expression of the producer’s style, but the producer’s identity is founded above all on the harmony between vineyard, grape variety and appellation.
Paolo Scavino’s wines are characterised by a profile that combines elegance, aromatic clarity and depth of tannins. The pursuit of terroir purity, underpinned by a long history of work in the Langhe, makes his winery a name closely linked to the culture of Barolo and its most precise and terroir-driven expression.
