Petrussa
Petrussa is a Friuli-based producer based in Prepotto, in the eastern part of the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC, between the Slovenian border and the Collio Goriziano. Its identity stems from a long tradition of family farming and focuses on interpreting the Judrio Valley, a transitional area between the Adriatic and the Julian Pre-Alps, where wind, temperature variations and differences in soil have a direct impact on the ripening of the grapes. The signature grape variety is Schioppettino, native to this area and now associated with the Schioppettino di Prepotto sub-zone, one of the most recognisable expressions of Friuli’s indigenous reds. In the vineyards, which are divided into plots with varying soil and climate conditions, Petrussa makes the most of limestone, sandy, clayey and marly soils, seeking vegetative balance and a precise understanding of each individual plot. The stated agronomic approach favours low-impact integrated cultivation, with natural grass cover and cultivation methods designed to preserve the soil structure and the physiology of the vine. In the winery, vinifying grapes from different vineyards separately allows the character of each plot to be explored in depth and technical decisions to be tailored towards wines that remain true to the terroir. The resulting style emphasises finesse, depth and balance: in the Schioppettino, spicy notes, berry fruit and a structure that is more elegant than muscular prevail, whilst the range as a whole maintains a clear link with Prepotto and its wine-growing tradition.
