Poliziano
Poliziano is a Tuscan producer with deep roots in Montepulciano and the culture of Vino Nobile, a journey that began in 1961 and has been built around promoting the local area. The name itself evokes the town’s historical identity, whilst production focuses on expressing the character of the local Sangiovese, known here as Prugnolo Gentile, a key grape variety for understanding the balance between tradition and contemporary interpretation.
The grapes come from vineyards managed on a plot-by-plot basis, set amongst rolling hills characterised by varied aspect, altitude and soil composition. In the Montepulciano area, Pliocene-era strata are found, alternating between clays, sands, limestone components, silty layers and mineral deposits, all of which contribute to defining wines of structure, tension and depth. This focus on geology and the variations within the vineyards has led Poliziano to work on the identity of individual plots, seeking precision and distinctiveness rather than stylistic uniformity.
The approach to viticulture is focused on sustainability and certified organic farming from the 2021 harvest onwards, with vineyard management that prioritises the vitality of the vines and minimises unnecessary interventions. In the winery, the focus is on preserving the terroir: the use of wood, in various formats, is designed to support the wine’s development without masking the character of the grapes. The result is a style that combines substance, freshness and natural expressiveness, with wines that capture the essence of Montepulciano through balance, depth and a true reflection of the terroir.
