Primosic
Primosic is a winery in Friuli Venezia Giulia based in Oslavia, in the Collio area of Gorizia – a border region where viticulture interplays with breezy hills, poor soils and a rich agricultural heritage. Its identity is closely linked to Ribolla Gialla, a historic grape variety of these hills, interpreted as an authentic expression of the terroir and as a raw material capable of diverse interpretations, ranging from the more straightforward white winemaking to skin maceration that evokes the tradition of Oslavia’s orange wines.
The vineyard-covered landscape of the Collio plays a decisive role in shaping the style of the wines: the ‘ponca’ – an alternating layer of marl and sandstone – imparts mineral tension, depth and a distinctive terroir character. Within this context, Primosic focuses on viticulture that pays close attention to the ripening of the grapes, and on winemaking choices designed to respect the variety and character of the vintage. Stainless steel is used to preserve freshness, fragrance and aromatic precision, whilst maceration, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in large oak casks form part of a more structured approach to expressing the wine’s character, particularly in the exploration of Ribolla Gialla.
The result is a range of wines with a distinct character, centred on the great white wines of the Collio and the distinctive voice of Oslavia: dry, elegant wines, often savoury and deep, in which the essence of the terroir remains the defining feature.
