Proprietà Sperino
Proprietà Sperino is linked to Lessona, in the Biella area, one of the regions most closely associated with Nebbiolo in Upper Piedmont. Here, viticulture flourishes in a pre-Alpine landscape characterised by the proximity of Monte Rosa and by natural conditions that favour wines of tension, aroma and finesse. The Lessona DOC designation centres on Nebbiolo – locally known as Spanna – with the possible inclusion of traditional varieties such as Vespolina and Uva Rara; this context allows for subtle, luminous and deeply terroir-driven expressions.
The defining feature is the soil: ancient marine sands, known as ‘Ori di Lessona’, rest on an igneous bedrock and are enriched with mineral components and glacial sediments. The natural acidity of these soils and their unique composition help to define a recognisable character, in which the Nebbiolo tends to express fine tannins, a hint of salinity, freshness and an elegant aromatic profile.
The winemaking approach emphasises the quality of the raw material and a natural interpretation of the terroir. Hand-harvesting, careful selection of the grapes and winemaking techniques that respect the delicacy of the fruit all contribute to a restrained style, focused more on balance and clarity than on power. The wines of Proprietà Sperino thus convey a crisp and refined image of northern Piedmont, capable of combining energy, mineral depth and continuity with the Lessona tradition.
