Producers/ Ridolfi
Ridolfi
Ridolfi is a Tuscan producer based in the Montalcino area, in the village of Mercatali, on the north-eastern slope of the hill and close to the Strada del Brunello. Its identity is rooted in one of the most distinctive Sangiovese terroirs, where exposure, altitude and ventilation contribute to the gradual ripening of the grapes and to wines characterised by depth, balance and a distinct sense of place. The main focus is on Sangiovese Grosso, produced within the context of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and the Montalcino appellations, with an approach that prioritises an understanding of the grape variety and the hilly landscape.
In the vineyard, the focus is on soil health and the quality of the raw material: the practices employed include sexual confusion to prevent leaf-roller moths, the use of organic humus, and the sowing of cover crops to improve the soil’s structure and organic matter content. This approach supports precision viticulture, without separating agronomic care from the expression of the wine.
The winemaking process follows an approach consistent with the style of the region, involving temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, prolonged maceration and a ageing programme designed to complement the character of the Sangiovese without overpowering it. The result is a profile characterised by elegance, freshness, a well-structured tannic profile and aromatic depth, whilst maintaining a clear connection to Montalcino and the tradition of long-ageing Tuscan reds.
