Santa Venere
Santa Venere is a Calabrian producer with roots in the hills of Cirò, in the Crotone area overlooking the Ionian Sea, one of the region’s historic wine-growing areas. Its identity stems from the interplay between the Mediterranean landscape, the agricultural heritage of the ancient land of Cirò and a consistent commitment to certified organic farming. The vineyards are situated in a bright and breezy setting, where sun exposure and the influence of the sea help to preserve the grapes’ aromatic integrity, freshness and definition.
Santa Venere’s work focuses on promoting Calabrian native grape varieties, with particular attention to Gaglioppo, Greco Bianco and other traditional local varieties. The raw material is handled with care right from the harvest: in the winery, the grapes are protected during the initial stages through temperature control, with the aim of limiting oxidation and preserving the fruit’s original character. The ageing process and technical choices are designed to enhance the varietal expression without compromising the wines’ regional character.
The winery’s style favours distinctive, Mediterranean wines that remain firmly rooted in their Calabrian character, capable of combining structure, savoury notes and a clean, expressive profile. Alongside the Cirò tradition, Santa Venere also interprets this indigenous variety through a design-led approach, incorporating winemaking techniques that broaden the expressive potential of Gaglioppo and reaffirm its active role in the contemporary promotion of Calabrian viticulture.
