Sergio Arcuri
Sergio Arcuri is a Calabrian winemaker with ties to the historic area of Cirò, in the province of Crotone, one of the regions most closely associated with the region’s wine-growing heritage. His roots lie in the Ionian coast, where the proximity of the sea, the influence of the Sila plateau and dry conditions allow the local grape varieties to express themselves clearly. The estate’s agricultural roots date back to the late nineteenth century and form part of the ongoing tradition of Cirò PDO, a key appellation for the expression of the Gaglioppo grape variety.
The work in the vineyard highlights the raw material as a fundamental element of the wine’s style. Sources describe a biotic approach to viticulture and the maintenance of vineyards trained using the alberello method, a traditional style particularly suited to arid, clay-rich soils. Gaglioppo remains the main variety: a grape capable of combining moderate colour, subtle tannins, Mediterranean freshness and aromas of red fruit and flowers.
In the cellar, the approach is minimalist and respectful, with spontaneous fermentation and the use of concrete tanks – a choice that complements the wine without overshadowing its character. The result is a range of wines with an artisanal character, consistent with the tradition of Cirò but interpreted with a contemporary sensibility: dry, terroir-driven wines, not built on extraction, but rather on the finesse of the Gaglioppo grape and the distinctive character of the Ionian Calabrian landscape.
