Serracavallo
Serracavallo is a Calabrian winery based in Bisignano, in the province of Cosenza, on the hills overlooking the Crati Valley. Its identity stems from a landscape of high hills, close to the Sila plateau and characterised by favourable exposures, predominantly sandy soils and significant temperature variations between day and night. These conditions contribute to slow ripening and wines that combine structure, freshness and aromatic definition.
The work in the vineyard highlights the connection with the Terre di Cosenza PDO designation and with the local grape variety heritage. Alongside international grape varieties, Serracavallo devotes particular attention to Calabrian varieties such as Magliocco Dolce, Pecorello, Brettio and Greco Nero, cultivated using organic viticulture, traditional training systems and hand-harvested grapes. The careful selection of raw materials is key to preserving the region’s identity and ensuring precision of expression.
In the cellar, the approach combines technology with a measured hand: controlled fermentation, gentle winemaking techniques and carefully calibrated ageing – including in oak – help the wines develop a distinctive style. Serracavallo’s wines prioritise balance, depth and a connection to the terroir, with full-bodied reds and whites that capture the freshest, most mountainous character of northern Calabria. Within the Crati Valley, the producer offers a contemporary interpretation of the Cosenza tradition, grounded in grape varieties, altitude and consistent viticultural practices.
