Tabarrini
Tabarrini is an artisanal winery deeply rooted in Montefalco, in the heart of Umbria, with vineyards and a cellar in Turrita, a recognised sub-zone within the appellation. Its identity stems from its direct relationship with the plots of land in the area, which are regarded as a mosaic of sites differing in aspect, soil and character. In this context, Sagrantino plays a central role: the grape variety that symbolises Montefalco, with its polyphenol-rich skins and pronounced tannins, is also vinified separately from the most expressive vineyards, with the aim of bringing out the distinct nuances of the same landscape.
The management of the vineyards prioritises careful and sustainable practices, with specific attention paid to each cru and a focus on ensuring the grapes ripen fully and gradually. Alongside Sagrantino, the winemaking process also showcases other varieties from the Umbrian region, including Trebbiano Spoletino and Grero, the latter having been revived as an ancient grape variety that embodies the region’s identity.
In the winery, the approach is focused on bringing out the best in the raw material without taking any shortcuts: spontaneous fermentation, the absence of selected yeasts, long macerations, racking by gravity and ageing in large casks define a consistent, respectful and meticulous style. Tabarrini’s wines express structure, depth and a distinct sense of place, offering an interpretation of Montefalco that combines deep agricultural roots, interpretative precision and a focus on the vitality of the local grape varieties.
