Tenuta Bellafonte
Tenuta Bellafonte is situated in Umbria, in the Bevagna area, near Torre del Colle, amidst a hilly landscape that forms part of the Montefalco region and its most distinctive winemaking tradition. The estate’s winemaking identity is linked above all to Sagrantino, an ancient grape variety central to the Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG appellation, vinified with the aim of combining depth, freshness and expressive precision. The vineyards are situated on well-exposed slopes, at varying altitudes, on soils where clay alternates with marl and sandstone formations – conditions that contribute to the structure and tension of the wines. In the vineyard, the approach prioritises care for the soil and the vines: natural fertilisation, mechanical tillage to aerate the soil and roots, no chemical weedkillers, and manual intervention during the most delicate stages, right through to the selection of the grapes at harvest. In the cellar, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, ageing in large Slavonian oak casks and clarification by decanting, without filtration. The result is a style that seeks vitality and integrity, with reds full of personality, a distinct tannic structure and good acidity, capable of expressing the character of Sagrantino and the region’s grape varieties without making them seem heavy. Environmental sustainability and natural processes round off a coherent profile, deeply rooted in the Umbrian landscape and the culture of Montefalco.
