Tenuta Olim Bauda
Tenuta Olim Bauda forms part of the wine-growing landscape of the Asti Monferrato region, situated between Incisa Scapaccino and the Nizza Monferrato area, in a setting where Barbera finds one of its most distinctive expressions. The estate’s name evokes a documented historical presence in the area, which today is reflected in a production philosophy centred on continuity with Piedmontese tradition and a careful understanding of the vineyards.
The vineyards are spread across various municipalities in the Monferrato region and are selected on the basis of soil composition and aspect. The estate’s records describe soils generally consisting of sandy-clay marl of marine origin and limestone, with fossil traces that bear witness to the area’s ancient geological history. This soil profile favours wines with a distinct terroir character, in which structure, freshness and aromatic precision remain closely linked to the raw material.
The farm is certified organic and is the result of a commitment to sustainability that began back in the 1990s. In the vineyard, the focus is on understanding the soil, selecting the most suitable grape varieties and tending the grapes, with particular emphasis on Barbera, Nizza DOCG and Barbera d’Asti, alongside historic Piedmontese varieties such as Moscato, Grignolino and Cortese. In the winery, the approach combines tradition with technical control: careful fermentation, the use of stainless steel and precisely controlled ageing result in wines that are recognisable for their balance, depth and true expression of the Monferrato terroir.
