Terre Bianche
Terre Bianche is a Ligurian producer based in the Val Nervia, in the westernmost part of the region’s Ponente area, a border region where viticulture coexists with steep slopes, sunny exposures and the moderating influence of the sea. The name evokes a distinct feature of the location: white, clay-rich soil, combined with a mild climate, which helps to define the identity of the vineyards and the wines’ expression of the terroir. The winery’s documented origins date back to 1870, but its focus remains primarily on agricultural continuity and the promotion of local grapes.
The main reference point is Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC, a historic appellation in the western part of the Imperia area and the first DOC to be recognised in Liguria. In this context, Rossese takes on a cultural as well as a productive role: a red grape variety closely linked to the Nervia, Verbone and Roja valleys, it expresses a subtle, territorial Mediterranean character. Alongside this, Terre Bianche also cultivates white grape varieties typical of western Liguria, such as Pigato and Vermentino, maintaining an approach consistent with the local ampelographic heritage.
The winemaking philosophy appears to be geared towards bringing out the unique characteristics of the raw material, with a focus on aspect, soil and the natural balance of the grapes. The result is a style that is recognisable for its connection to the landscape: wines that prioritise finesse, freshness, Mediterranean aromas and a clear expression of the western Ligurian terroir, whilst remaining firmly rooted in a deeply established winemaking tradition.
