Terre degli Svevi - Re Manfredi
Terre degli Svevi – Re Manfredi is a Lucanian winery with strong ties to the Venosa area, in the heart of the Aglianico del Vulture DOC region. Founded in 1998, it embodies the inland, volcanic character of Basilicata, where the Vulture landscape distinctly shapes the character of viticulture. The soils are formed by the interplay of volcanic components and matrices rich in clay, tuff and minerals; combined with intense sunlight and a continental climate, featuring cold winters, hot summers and significant daily temperature variations, these conditions are particularly favourable for the slow ripening and aromatic development of Aglianico.
The winery’s identity is built around making the most of its plots and raw materials. The vineyards, trained using both the Guyot and spurred cordon systems, allow for a clear understanding of the territory’s various expressions, whilst in the cellar, the selection of grapes and the separate vinification of batches from different vineyards aim to preserve their distinctive characteristics. The use of wood and steel, alongside experimentation with alternative containers, underpins a technical approach focused on precision and research, whilst remaining true to the terroir.
In the wines of Terre degli Svevi – Re Manfredi, the Aglianico del Vulture stands out for its structure, depth and a mineral, savoury note that can be traced back to the slopes of the ancient volcano. The style prioritises balance, intensity and distinctiveness, giving voice to one of Basilicata’s most iconic wine appellations.
