Producers/ Terre del Principe
Terre del Principe
Terre del Principe is a Campania-based producer based in Castel Campagnano, in the Caserta area, where viticulture is linked to the rediscovery of some of the region’s most distinctive native grape varieties: Pallagrello Bianco, Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia. Its focus on the territory centres on the Terre del Volturno IGT area, within an inland landscape characterised by its proximity to the Matese and Taburno mountains and the course of the Volturno river, with vineyards spread between Castel Campagnano and Castel di Sasso. The winery’s identity stems from a focus on the raw materials, prioritising historic local varieties, hand-harvesting and farming practices oriented towards organic methods; the winery’s records also indicate the absence of herbicides and pesticides and the use of green manure to maintain soil vitality. The soil profile is particularly distinctive: the so-called Caiazzo sandstones – comprising sand, clay, grey tuff, marl and volcanic components linked to the presence of ancient volcanic systems – help to impart depth and character to the wines. In the winery, the approach remains consistent with the aim of clearly expressing the character of Pallagrello and Casavecchia, alternating between stainless steel and oak depending on the different interpretations. The result is wines that are true to their terroir, combining freshness, structure, and fruity and spicy notes, with a strong identity linked to inland Campania and its winemaking heritage.
