Toros
Toros is a producer based in Friuli Venezia Giulia, near Novali, close to Cormons, in the heart of the Collio Goriziano. Its identity stems from its border location, where viticulture is shaped by rolling hills, favourable exposures and a landscape that blends Friulian culture with the influence of neighbouring Slovenia. The estate’s agricultural roots date back to the early decades of the 20th century and have been cemented by a direct relationship with the vineyard, regarded as the natural centre of its productive work.
The terroir is crucial in defining the character of Toros wines. Ponca, the typical soil of the Collio region, consisting of stratified marl and sandstone, provides a mineral-rich, well-drained substrate; the microclimate benefits from the protection of the Julian Pre-Alps against cold winds and the moderating influence of the Adriatic Sea, with ventilation and daily temperature variations that are ideal for the ripening of the grapes. It is within this balance that wines take shape, characterised by precision, aromatic purity and a distinct sense of place.
The winemaking approach prioritises the region’s most representative grape varieties, with a particular focus on the white wines of Collio, whilst maintaining a connection with some of the appellation’s red wines. Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon and Chardonnay are expressed here with clarity, tension and consistency, where freshness, structure and minerality interact with an understated stylistic sensibility. Toros interprets the Collio with consistency, showcasing the raw materials, agricultural tradition and character of the terroir.
