Vajra
Vajra is a Piedmontese producer based in Vergne, in the municipality of Barolo, in the heart of the Langhe. Its identity stems from a direct connection with the cooler, higher-altitude areas of the appellation and the hilly landscape surrounding Barolo, where Nebbiolo benefits from slow, sun-drenched ripening conditions that naturally foster finesse. Among its most representative wines is the Bricco delle Viole, described by local sources as the highest-altitude cru in the municipality of Barolo and cultivated by the Vajra family for centuries: a site that helps define a style characterised more by elegance, aromatic precision and complexity than by sheer power alone.
The agricultural approach is a key element: the winery is recognised as one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in Piedmont, with certified vineyards, natural grass cover and a focus on protecting the soil from erosion. A commitment to biodiversity, extending to vineyards, fields and woods, goes hand in hand with a highly labour-intensive approach to viticulture that focuses on the plant’s natural balance. The vineyards feature Nebbiolo and other traditional Langhe grape varieties, with a particular focus on massal selections and the promotion of the region’s historic varieties.
In the winery, the technical approach prioritises careful, non-invasive methods: selective harvesting, gentle maceration, fermentation tailored to each individual plot, and ageing designed to preserve freshness, varietal clarity and depth. Vajra wines thus offer a clear expression of Barolo and Piedmont, recognisable for their vigour, grace and distinct territorial character.
