Venica & Venica
Venica & Venica is a wine producer based in the Collio region, in Dolegna del Collio, in the far north-east of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in an area bordering Slovenia. Its identity is closely linked to the Collio DOC designation, a hilly area where viticulture finds particularly favourable conditions for the expression of white grape varieties. The landscape features a variety of aspect, altitudes and microclimates, whilst the subsoil of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin – locally known as ‘ponca’ – helps to give the wines tension, savouriness and mineral depth.
The winemaking approach emphasises an understanding of individual vineyard plots and the quality of the raw material, with a particular focus on varieties such as Sauvignon, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Malvasia. Viticulture is seen as a means of caring for the land and upholding the Collio tradition, combining environmental awareness, agronomic observation and research focused on sustainability.
In the winery, the style prioritises precision, balance and a distinct sense of place. The wines tend to combine aromatic clarity, structure and freshness, whilst maintaining an expressive character consistent with the hilly climate and the complexity of the soils. Venica & Venica is thus one of the most significant voices of the Friulian Collio region, capable of conveying, through its wines, the area’s vocation for white wines and the character of a frontier territory, rich in natural and cultural nuances.
