Villa Sparina

Villa Sparina is a Piedmontese estate with close ties to Monterotondo, a hamlet in the municipality of Gavi, in the southern part of the province of Alessandria. Its identity is rooted in the hilly landscape of the Oltregiogo, a transitional area between Piedmont and Liguria, where the Cortese grape finds one of its most distinctive expressions in the Gavi DOCG appellation. The natural setting is an essential part of the wine’s character: the vineyards are nestled amongst hills and woods, in an environment cooled by Ligurian breezes and characterised by clay-limestone soils – conditions that favour balanced acidity, savoury notes and aromatic precision.

Founded in the 1970s, Villa Sparina has built its reputation on promoting the Cortese grape and its connection with the Monterotondo area, which is regarded as a particularly significant benchmark for Gavi. The raw material is interpreted with an approach focused on territorial clarity: freshness, mineral tension and the capacity for evolution are recurring elements in the white wines, underpinned by an interpretation of the grape variety that combines expressive immediacy with depth. Alongside Cortese, Barbera links the estate’s production to the wider Piedmontese wine-growing landscape, with references to the Rivalta Bormida area.
