Vigna ElenaBarolo Riserva Docg
Cogno
Vigna Elena is a Barolo made from Nebbiolo grapes in the Rosè subvariety from a small vineyard with very low yields. Nebbiolo is the grape variety considered one of the best varieties in Italy and the world. It is a very ancient grape variety, and in some documents Pliny the Elder refers to Nebbiolo as "nubiola," nebbia in Latin, since the grapes ripen late and in autumn the hills of Piedmont where the vineyards are located are easily shrouded in fog. According to some, the name derives from the abundant flowering of this grape variety, making it appear to be bathed in fog. Nebbiolo grows mainly in Piedmont, Lombardy and Valle d'Aosta, and has always lived in very restricted and specific areas of these regions. It is a variety of which many genotypes have been hypothesized, but recent studies have identified only two, Nebbiolo Lampia, the most common, and Nebbiolo Rosé. Nebbiolo is characterized by a very small cluster and cylindrical shape, and it adapts very well to new territories. It grows best on low-fertile soils rich in clay and limestone in warm areas with excellent sun exposure because it is very sensitive to spring frost and autumn rains.Read moreSold out
