Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara
Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a grape variety that grows mainly near the Tuscan town of San Gimignano. It is first mentioned in 1276 in the "ordinamento di gabella" and was the favorite wine of Lorenzo de Medici, the church and the most important people at the time. Ludovico il Moro had two hundred flasks of Vernaccia di San Gimignano shipped for his son's wedding to Isabella, daughter of King Alfonso II of Naples. DNA studies have found that Vernaccia di San Gimignano is identical to the Piccabon that grows in Liguria, the region from which Vernaccia di San Gimignano is thought to have originated. The grape variety is characterized by a large, compact, pyramidal cluster with medium-sized oval berries and a rather thick skin.Read more16.30 €
