Greco Moro is a rare white grape variety linked to the winemaking tradition of Cori, in southern Lazio, at the foot of the Lepini Mountains. Its history has been passed down through local farming lore, which places it alongside Greco Giallo as an ancient variety cultivated in the area and traceable to the Greco family. The name ‘Moro’ refers to the distinctive dark green, almost brownish, colour that the berries take on when fully ripe. From an ampelographic point of view, it produces medium-to-large bunches, conical-pyramidal in shape and compact in structure; the berries are round, with a thick, firm skin. The leaf is generally of medium size, with an orbicular shape and a three-lobed structure, consistent with the characteristics of the varietal group to which it belongs. Cultivation is concentrated mainly in the hilly area of Cori and represents a significant example of the revival of a local viticultural heritage. The resulting wine is characterised by a bright straw-yellow colour, sometimes enhanced by greenish hues. On the nose, it offers aromas of peach, almond and yellow fruit, accompanied by vegetal notes of freshly cut hay, fern and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is dry, savoury and full-bodied, underpinned by a mineral character and a robust structure. Its high polyphenol content encourages development in the bottle, with aromas that gain complexity and depth over time.
