Alberto Quacquarini
Alberto Quacquarini is a winemaker with deep ties to Serrapetrona, in the Macerata hinterland, where the wine-growing traditions of the Marche region meet a landscape of hills and mountains characterised by cold winters and Mediterranean-style summers. It is within this natural balance that the winery’s identity takes shape, centred on Vernaccia Nera, a native grape variety which finds its most recognisable and territorial expression in Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOCG.
The production approach makes the most of organically grown grapes, processed in accordance with the appellation’s traditional methods. The distinctive character of Vernaccia di Serrapetrona stems from a complex process: some of the grapes are vinified immediately after harvest, whilst others are left to dry naturally; the wine then undergoes successive fermentations, right up to the second fermentation, using a method that defines the uniqueness of this DOCG red sparkling wine.
In Alberto Quacquarini’s wines, the connection to the terroir translates into a consistent flavour profile, combining aromatic notes, red fruit, smoothness and a slightly bitter finish, typical of Vernaccia Nera. The winery thus stands as one of the most distinctive voices of Serrapetrona, contributing to the cultural continuity of a rare appellation, born from the combination of native grape varieties, grape drying, sparkling wine-making tradition and the unique environmental conditions of the inland Marche region.
