Ancarani
Ancarani is a Romagna-based producer with roots in the hills around Faenza, in the village of Santa Lucia, in the Oriolo dei Fichi area. Here, the vineyards are set within a hilly landscape characterised by the presence of the historic fortress and by soil and climate conditions favourable to the cultivation of Romagna’s traditional grape varieties. The winery’s identity centres on indigenous varieties such as Sangiovese, Albana, Trebbiano, Famoso and Centesimino, which it regards as part of the region’s agricultural and cultural heritage.
The area forms part of the Romagna wine-growing region and, as regards Albana, falls within the area recognised by the Romagna Albana DOCG designation, which also includes the municipality of Faenza. Work in the vineyard prioritises the selection of the raw material and a production approach geared towards the natural expression of the terroir, with a focus on biodiversity and continuity between old vineyards and new plantings. Agronomic choices aim to produce healthy, ripe grapes, enhancing the richness of the grape varieties without imposing any stylistic constraints.
In the winery, the stated approach is minimalist and respectful: long macerations, reduced use of sulphites, and a quest to produce wines that convey the essence of the grapes and the character of the Faenza hills in the glass. The result is a distinctive, textural and recognisable regional style, in which the farming traditions of Romagna engage with a contemporary sensibility for authenticity, biodiversity and expressive coherence.
