Cantina di Mogoro
Cantina di Mogoro is a leading winery in the Alta Marmilla region, in central-western Sardinia, in the province of Oristano. Founded in 1956, the winery’s identity is closely linked to the promotion of the island’s historic grape varieties, particularly Semidano, which finds one of its most distinctive expressions in the Mogoro sub-region, alongside Bovale and other varieties deeply rooted in Sardinian tradition. The Mogoro area, situated within the Monte Arci region and characterised by a long history of agricultural and cultural continuity, offers a landscape of fertile land, rolling hills and open vistas imbued with the spirit of the Mediterranean. The vineyards are situated on soils that are partly limestone and partly composed of Quaternary sands, with a climate characterised by mild winters, hot summers and the salty influence of the mistral. This combination fosters grapes with a strong sense of place, capable of producing well-defined, flavourful wines that are true to their terroir. The stated production philosophy prioritises care for the raw material: harvesting is carried out by hand, with the ripest bunches selected, whilst in the cellar, temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing choices aim to preserve the distinctive characteristics of the grapes and individual vineyards. The result is a style that combines local tradition with technical precision, producing structured whites with a briny freshness and intense, Mediterranean reds that are deeply rooted in Sardinia’s wine-growing heritage.
