Cantina Fratelli Pardi
Cantina Fratelli Pardi is an Umbrian producer with deep roots in Montefalco, the historic heart of the region’s wine-growing industry and a key centre for Sagrantino. The winery dates back to 1919, and its current approach remains closely tied to local winemaking traditions, interpreted with a focus on the raw materials and the distinctive character of the terroir. The vineyards are situated on the hills of Casale, Campolungo, Pietrauta and Lasignano, within the Montefalco area, on soils predominantly of sedimentary origin and with exposures facing east and south-east – conditions that promote vegetative balance and consistent ripening. At the heart of the estate’s winemaking identity lies Sagrantino, a native grape variety with a strong character, complemented by grapes historically grown in the area such as Sangiovese, Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino, as well as other varieties included within the framework of local appellations. Agronomic management emphasises manual labour in the vineyard, from pruning to harvesting, with a focus on grape selection and compliance with the production regulations. In the cellar, the use of stainless steel for fermentation and storage is combined with ageing in wooden vessels of varying capacities – including French oak, Slavonian oak and barriques – following an approach that blends tradition with technical precision. The style of the wines tends to prioritise balance, expressive finesse and fidelity to the Montefalco character, offering an interpretation of Sagrantino that is less focused solely on power and more oriented towards aromatic depth and territorial continuity.
