Chionetti
Chionetti is a long-established winery in Dogliani, in the south-western Langhe, where its connection with Dolcetto lies at the heart of the company’s identity. The winery has its roots in the region’s wine-growing tradition and has found one of its most recognisable landmarks in the San Luigi area: a particularly well-suited hilly area, influenced by its higher altitude compared to other parts of the Langa and its proximity to the Maritime Alps – conditions that favour freshness, balance and expressive precision.
The work carried out in the vineyards highlights the distinct characteristics of each slope. At San Luigi, the more fertile, clay-rich soils on the western side interact with the lighter soils – rich in clay, silt and sand – found on the eastern slope and on the higher parts of the hill. This focus on the soil explains a style based on distinguishing the origins of the grapes, rather than on standardising the wine. Alongside Dogliani, Chionetti’s expertise extends to Barolo, with Nebbiolo sourced from areas of strong identity such as Monforte d’Alba, Castiglione Falletto and La Morra, characterised by the marl of Sant’Agata Fossili and a variety of exposures.
The estate’s agricultural practices are geared towards sustainability, with vineyards cultivated organically and an agronomic approach that prioritises the health of the grapes. The wines seek to achieve harmony between vintage, soil and grape variety, whilst maintaining a classic, terroir-driven and elegant profile, capable of combining the depth of Dolcetto di Dogliani with the interpretative finesse of Nebbiolo di Langa.
