Fattoria La Monacesca
Fattoria La Monacesca is a producer based in the Marche region with direct links to the Matelica area, in the inland part of the Marche where Verdicchio finds one of its most distinctive expressions. The setting is the Camertina Valley, sheltered from maritime influences and characterised by a more continental climate than other wine-growing areas in the region: significant daily temperature variations, the Apennine mountains and rolling hills all contribute to defining wines with a distinct character, characterised by freshness, savouriness and depth. The Verdicchio di Matelica appellation, recognised as a DOC in 1967, is central to the winery’s identity and showcases a native grape variety capable of combining structure and finesse. La Monacesca interprets this terroir by focusing on an expression of Verdicchio that goes beyond its immediate fragrance, seeking instead complexity and the potential for development. The notes described by the producer reveal hints of aniseed, citron and dried fruit, alongside a broad, deep and persistent flavour profile. The style therefore prioritises a solid expression of the terroir, in which the raw material retains the character of the region and time becomes an integral part of the wine’s balance. The result is a wine that is true to the very heart and soul of the Marche region’s Apennine heritage, capable of conveying the authentic and distinctive profile of Verdicchio di Matelica.
