Feudo Maccari
Feudo Maccari is situated in south-eastern Sicily, along the route between Noto and Pachino, in a Mediterranean landscape characterised by its proximity to the sea, the intense light and the hills overlooking Vendicari, Capo Passero and Isola delle Correnti. The producer makes the most of one of the finest regions for Nero d’Avola, pairing this signature grape variety with Grillo and Syrah in a natural setting where constant breezes, a dry climate and varied soils all contribute to defining the wine’s style.
The heart of the estate lies in the Maccari district and its sun-exposed vineyards, with areas characterised by white limestone soils, darker and sandier soils, and variations in altitude and aspect. In an arid environment, the ability of certain soils to retain moisture becomes a key factor in maintaining vegetative balance. The alberello training system, particularly significant for Nero d’Avola, draws on a Sicilian tradition adapted to the local climate: managing the canopy protects the bunches and promotes full ripening without losing aromatic freshness.
The winemaking philosophy focuses on the quality of the raw material and a measured approach to the winemaking process. In the cellar, ageing and development can take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, oval-shaped concrete vats, terracotta and wood, with an approach that prioritises respect for the grapes’ natural development. The result is wines with a Mediterranean character, recognisable for their brightness, savoury intensity and ability to express the luminous, maritime character of the Val di Noto.
