Fradiles
Fradiles is a winery based in Atzara, in the heart of Mandrolisai, a historic area of central Sardinia where vines have been part of the landscape and agricultural culture for centuries. The name, which in Sardinian evokes the bond between cousins, embodies an identity rooted in family continuity and the revival of a local winemaking tradition built on customs, heritage and a deep care for the vineyard. The terroir is characterised by high-altitude hills on the western slope of Gennargentu, with sunny summers, low rainfall and marked temperature variations between day and night. The soils, derived from weathered granite and schist, help to define wines with a distinct terroir profile, capable of conveying aromas, flavour and depth. The winery focuses primarily on the Mandrolisai DOC, a designation based on a blend of Bovale Sardo, Cannonau and Monica, alongside other indigenous varieties. In the historic vineyards of Atzara, recognised as part of the Historic Rural Landscapes, the ‘alberello’ training system plays an important role: a training method suited to poor, dry soils, associated with limited yields and a high concentration of the raw material. Fradiles’ approach focuses on safeguarding Mandrolisai’s viticultural heritage, combining respect for tradition, research, attention to detail and a measured use of technology. The result is wines that emphasise elegance, expressive simplicity and distinctiveness, offering an intense yet balanced interpretation of the central Sardinian terroir.
