Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara
Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara is a Tuscan winery rooted in the hills of San Gimignano, where Vernaccia defines the most direct link between the vineyard, the soil and local tradition. The winery was established in 2002, building on a family farming heritage already deeply connected to the land, and centres its identity on understanding the territory and making the most of its potential. The vineyards are situated within the Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG area, in a landscape characterised by varied exposures and soils composed mainly of ancient Pliocene sands, clays, pebbles and gravel, with traces of older limestone. This mosaic of soil types produces wines with a distinct character, capable of combining freshness, depth and a recognisable mineral quality. The viticultural approach is certified organic and stems from the desire to preserve the natural richness of the area, working carefully with the raw material and the characteristics of each individual plot. Alongside Vernaccia, the grape variety at the heart of the estate’s identity, there is also room for varieties linked to the tradition and the unique characteristics of the soils of San Gimignano. The winemaking style aims to produce authentic, complex and terroir-driven wines, in which freshness is not merely immediacy, but part of a balance destined to evolve over time.
