La Pizzuta del Principe
La Pizzuta del Principe is a Calabrian wine producer based in Strongoli, in the Crotone area, within an agricultural landscape characterised by its proximity to the Ionian Sea and the Val di Neto region. This setting, historically suited to viticulture and linked to the winemaking heritage of Magna Graecia, offers natural conditions favourable to the ripening of grapes with a Mediterranean character, supported by intense sunlight, sea breezes and a balance between hills, vine-covered plains and inland waterways.
The winery’s identity centres on promoting Calabrian native grape varieties and the region’s appellations, with a particular focus on grapes such as Pecorello, Gaglioppo, Greco Nero and Magliocco Canino. The production stems from a precise understanding of the territory: preserving the link with historic local varieties and translating this into wines capable of expressing freshness, minerality, distinct fruit character and a recognisable Ionian character.
The approach to viticulture includes organic farming, in line with a philosophy centred on the natural qualities of the raw material and respect for local winemaking traditions. In the winery, the style favours straightforward, terroir-driven and well-defined wines, in which the varietal character remains distinct and the Mediterranean character retains its balance. La Pizzuta del Principe thus represents a significant voice from the Ionian coast of Calabria, committed to giving a contemporary continuity to the ancient grape varieties of the Crotone area and to the winemaking culture of the Val di Neto.
