Luigi Spertino
Luigi Spertino is a Piedmontese winery based in Mombercelli, in the Monferrato area of Asti – a region of hills where the vines find soils and slopes capable of producing wines with a strong local character. The producer’s identity is particularly closely linked to Grignolino d’Asti, a historic and delicate grape variety, crafted with a focus on its natural aromatic finesse, subtle tannic structure and a freshness that makes its profile instantly recognisable. Alongside Grignolino, Barbera expresses the fuller, deeper character of the Asti region, with ripe fruit, lively acidity and a structure underpinned by traditional ageing methods.
The approach to viticulture is focused on sustainable practices, in keeping with the hilly landscape where the quality of the raw material stems from the care taken with the vineyards and harmony with the environment. In the winery, a minimally invasive approach prevails, with winemaking techniques designed to preserve the identity of the grape variety and the terroir: stainless steel, Slavonian oak and, for certain wines, alternative containers such as amphorae all contribute to producing clean, dry and terroir-driven wines.
Luigi Spertino’s style favours expressive simplicity: floral and fruity aromas, savoury notes, freshness and well-balanced tannins in the Grignolino; greater intensity, depth and length in the Barbera wines. The result is a range of wines rooted in the culture of the Asti Monferrato region, which consistently and precisely showcases traditional Piedmontese grape varieties.
