Marchesi Alfieri
Marchesi Alfieri is a Piedmontese wine producer based in San Martino Alfieri, in the Asti area where Roero, Langhe and Monferrato converge within the landscape of the Terre Alfieri. The estate’s winemaking history, documented since 1696, is linked to a naturally bordered territory defined by the River Tanaro, cultivated hills and a complex soil composition combining sand, clay, silt, limestone and lighter or redder soils depending on the aspect. This variety of soil supports a wine-growing identity centred primarily on Barbera, complemented by Nebbiolo, Grignolino and Pinot Noir, with vineyards spread across hills historically known as Sansoero, Quaglia and Calandrina.
The agricultural approach favours a ‘light-touch’ viticulture, focused on the balance of the vine and respect for the landscape: measured interventions, sustainable agronomic practices, mechanical weed control and quality selection carried out directly in the vineyard. The management of the raw material continues with harvests that take into account the ripeness of individual plots and with careful inspection of the grapes prior to vinification. In the winery, the approach is consistent with this interpretation of the terroir: separate vinification, rigorous ageing and a balanced use of oak aim to preserve the distinct character of the grape varieties and the hills from which they originate.
The style of Marchesi Alfieri wines is characterised by expressive purity, elegance and precision, with a constant pursuit of complexity without excess. The result is a distinct regional character, deeply Piedmontese and rooted in the terroir of the Terre Alfieri.
