Marco De Bartoli
Marco De Bartoli is a leading figure in western Sicily, with close ties to two complementary locations: the Marsala area, including the historic Samperi district, and the island of Pantelleria. His identity stems from the interplay between Marsala’s traditions and a rigorous understanding of the native grape varieties, particularly Grillo and Zibibbo, which he interprets as vehicles for expressing the terroir rather than merely as individual varieties. In Marsala, the vineyards are set within a warm, bright and dry landscape, on limestone soils rich in minerals, capable of producing wines with a salty, structured and deeply Mediterranean profile. On Pantelleria, the wind, the intense light and the island’s unique conditions help to define an aromatic, taut and distinctive Zibibbo, deeply rooted in the island’s agricultural heritage. The winemaking approach emphasises artisanal methods, unhurried processes and constant attention to the raw material, with the aim of preserving the wine’s energy, depth and expressive coherence. The winery maintains a distinctive balance between tradition and innovation: on the one hand, the revival of historic Marsala winemaking practices; on the other, a vision capable of restoring a strong contemporary identity to Sicilian wines. The result is a dry, crisp and terroir-driven style, in which sun-ripened maturity, freshness, savouriness and complexity coexist without losing any of their precision.
