Mariolina Baccellieri
Mariolina Baccellieri is a Calabrian winemaker based in Bianco, on the Ionian coast of Reggio Calabria, in an area where viticulture retains a deep connection with Greco di Bianco PDO and with indigenous grape varieties that have been cultivated there for centuries. The winery’s identity is built around the restoration of local vineyards and the promotion of grapes such as Greco Bianco and Mantonico, alongside expressions of the region’s viticultural heritage such as Nerello Calabrese, Gaglioppo, Guardavalle and Pedelongo. The natural setting of the Ionian coast, characterised by its proximity to the sea, intense sunlight and Mediterranean climate, helps to define wines with a distinct territorial character, capable of combining ripeness, savouriness and a sense of agricultural heritage.
Certified organic farming and a focus on the raw materials underpin a approach that emphasises continuity between the vineyard and the winery. The production offers a distinctive interpretation of the tradition of passito wines made from Greco and Mantonico, whilst also embracing more contemporary interpretations of Calabrian grape varieties. The style is consistent with the Bianco landscape: sunny, deep and rich in Mediterranean influences, yet underpinned by a quest for precision and distinctiveness. In this context, Mariolina Baccellieri is a leading voice in Ionian Calabria, committed to safeguarding historic grape varieties and expressing them in wines with an authentic character and distinct identity.
