Marziano Abbona
Marziano Abbona is a Piedmontese winemaker based in Dogliani, in the heart of the southern Langhe, where Dolcetto finds one of its most distinctive expressions. The winery operates in a hilly landscape characterised by significant altitudes for the area, carefully selected exposures and a wide variety of soils – factors that enable a precise understanding of the individual plots and ripening patterns. The heart of Dogliani, between Santa Lucia and San Luigi, is characterised by medium-textured, clay-rich soils, particularly suited to red wines with a fruity, fresh and terroir-driven profile; in the Monforte d’Alba and Novello areas, on the other hand, calcareous and calcareous-clay marls predominate, well-suited to Nebbiolo and to wines with greater depth and structure.
The approach to viticulture prioritises careful and sustainable management, involving manual labour, grass cover, a reduction in interventions, and practices designed to respect both the environment and the vines. The selection of grapes is based on an internal classification of the plots according to microclimate, location and geology, so that the most suitable plots are reserved for the most ambitious wines. Alongside Dolcetto, the grape variety central to the estate’s identity, the range includes Barbera, Nebbiolo and white varieties grown in the Langhe. The style of the wines seeks a balance between tradition and innovation, with crisp fruit, freshness, well-balanced tannins and a clear reflection of the character of the various Piedmontese slopes.
