Pietracupa
Pietracupa is a Campania-based producer based in Montefredane, in the heart of the Irpinia area of Avellino, an inland, hilly region where viticulture is characterised by significant variations in altitude, wide daily temperature ranges and a pronounced minerality. The territory, which is more mountainous and cooler than other parts of the region, offers particularly favourable conditions for native grape varieties and for producing white wines with structure, depth and the potential to age well.
Pietracupa’s identity is closely linked to Fiano and Greco, two grape varieties that symbolise Irpinia, vinified in a clean and precise style. The context of the Fiano di Avellino DOCG and Greco di Tufo DOCG appellations helps to define a recognisable territorial profile: Fiano tends to express energy, savouriness and measured aromatic complexity, whilst Greco highlights tension, body and a pronounced minerality. Alongside the whites, Aglianico evokes the more austere depth of Irpinia’s viticulture and its connection to the region’s great red appellations.
The winemaking philosophy appears to be focused on bringing out the best in the raw materials and the terroir, with understated and minimally invasive winemaking techniques designed to preserve the wine’s integrity, freshness and clarity of expression. Pietracupa’s wines are distinguished by their stylistic consistency, a balance between richness and structure, and an interpretation of the Campania terroir that goes beyond simple immediacy, instead conveying tension, depth and a strong Irpinia identity.
