Podere Grattamacco
Podere Grattamacco is one of Bolgheri’s pioneering estates, founded in 1977 in the hills between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, along the Tuscan coast. Its identity is clearly linked to the upper part of the appellation: a wooded hill overlooking the sea, where Mediterranean breezes temper the climate and help to preserve freshness, balance and gradual ripening. The terroir is characterised by soils of white sodic clay, flysch, quartz sandstone, calcareous marl and red sand – elements that lend the Bolgheri landscape a deep, mineral character.
Wine-growing showcases both the international grape varieties that have defined Bolgheri’s modern identity – such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot – and varieties linked to Tuscan and coastal traditions, in particular Sangiovese and Vermentino. It is precisely the presence of Sangiovese in the most representative red wines that expresses a distinctive trait: a dialogue between Mediterranean character, Bordeaux-style structure and Tuscan heritage.
The winemaking approach prioritises manual techniques, measured interventions and a focus on the raw material, with the aim of allowing the character of the Grattamacco hills to shine through. The wines are characterised by tension, depth and precision, combining sun-ripened fruit, maritime freshness and a savoury texture that consistently reflects the hills, woods and white clays of Bolgheri.
