Principe Pallavicini
Principe Pallavicini is a historic name in Lazio’s wine-growing industry, associated with the vineyards of Rome and, in particular, the Colonna area, in the heart of the Frascati appellation. Its identity stems from the fusion of deep-rooted tradition and a contemporary interpretation of the terroir, with a constant focus on the raw ingredients and the distinct character of the grape varieties grown.
The soil and climate of the Colli Albani play a central role: the volcanic soils, combined with the sunshine and breezes of the hilly area south-east of Rome, favour white wines with a fresh, savoury and floral profile. Within this context, grape varieties historically associated with Frascati – such as Malvasia, Trebbiano and Grechetto – find their expression, alongside other varieties from Lazio’s viticultural heritage and international selections that are seamlessly integrated with the distinct characteristics of the various sites.
The Tenuta di Colonna estate is the producer most closely associated with Frascati DOC and Frascati Superiore DOCG white wines, whilst its work with red grapes also showcases other regions of Lazio, with an approach focused on balance, expressive purity and aromatic precision. In the vineyard, careful agronomic choices are evident, from grass cover management to judicious harvesting, all designed to preserve freshness, ripeness and definition. The style of the wines prioritises harmony, an immediate sense of place and a distinct Mediterranean character, whilst maintaining a strong connection to one of the most recognisable regions of Roman viticulture.
