Roccapesta

Roccapesta is a producer based in Scansano, in the Grosseto Maremma, which bases its identity on the expression of Sangiovese within a terroir defined by the Morellino di Scansano DOCG designation. Here, the hills slope down towards the Tyrrhenian coast and benefit from exposure to sea breezes, whilst the temperature variations during the summer and autumn encourage balanced ripening and aromatic concentration. The soils, which are varied and often shallow, alternate between clay, limestone, iron-rich and stony components, providing a natural matrix that clearly influences the character of the wines.

The company’s philosophy combines craftsmanship with research: the study of soils, clones and microclimates forms part of an approach aimed at gaining a better understanding of the Scansano ecosystem and defining a distinctive character for it. The grapes come from the estate’s own vineyards and are vinified using a minimalist approach, in which quality begins in the vineyard and continues with the manual selection of the raw material. In the cellar, the principle of minimal intervention prevails: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no forced processes, no filtration, and the use of time as a means of clarification and ageing. The result is a range of Maremma-style reds, centred on Sangiovese and native grape varieties, with a rich, fragrant and long-lasting profile, built more on territorial precision than on stylistic immediacy.
