Rovellotti
Rovellotti is a producer based in Ghemme, in the Novara area of Upper Piedmont, within a historic wine-growing region where Nebbiolo takes on a more northern character than in the southern parts of Piedmont. Its location in the Ricetto di Ghemme, the village’s ancient fortified centre, links the winery to a cultural landscape where viticulture coexists with medieval heritage, morainic hills and soils capable of producing taut, deep and long-lived wines. The winery’s identity centres on the Ghemme DOCG and Colline Novaresi DOC appellations, with a strong focus on the region’s native grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Vespolina, Uva Rara – locally associated with Novara Bonarda – and Erbaluce. The approach is geared towards preserving the varietal character and freshness of the raw material, with winemaking processes tailored to the specific wine type and ageing methods that distinguish the younger wines from those intended for longer maturation. For Ghemme, a traditional approach prevails, characterised by extended ageing periods and the use of large casks, consistent with the structure of Upper Piedmontese Nebbiolo and the aromatic contribution of Vespolina. The result is a recognisable style, characterised by elegance, tannic texture, acidity and spicy notes, in which the fruit never overpowers the sense of place. Rovellotti thus interprets Ghemme as a borderland appellation with depth, capable of producing restrained, terroir-driven wines that are firmly rooted in the wine-growing culture of Upper Piedmont.
