Skerk

Skerk is a producer based in the Trieste Karst, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with deep roots in the Duino Aurisina area and the village of Prepotto, a short distance from the Slovenian border. Its identity stems from a rugged yet luminous landscape, where limestone outcrops amidst red, stony, iron-rich soils, with vineyards exposed to the influence of the Adriatic and the winds of the Karst plateau. In this setting, viticulture takes on an essential and deeply territorial character, linked to the vine’s ability to adapt to poor, well-drained soils that are difficult to work.

Skerk’s work focuses above all on grape varieties that are part of the Karst’s agricultural history, such as Vitovska, Istrian Malvasia and Terrano. His approach in the vineyard is geared towards respecting the natural balance, with careful practices and a sensitive understanding of the site’s conditions. The winemaking process also follows a minimalist approach: spontaneous fermentation, skin contact for the whites, and ageing designed to complement the expression of the raw material without masking its original character.

Skerk’s wines are characterised by a salty, textured and dry profile, in which the mineral character of the Karst interacts with structure, depth and aromatic precision. The producer’s distinctive character lies in its consistency with the territory: wines that interpret the natural and cultural border between Italy and Slovenia through energy, restraint and a strong connection to the Karst landscape.
