Tenuta di Fessina
Tenuta di Fessina is a Sicilian wine producer based on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Etna, with its headquarters in Rovittello, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. Its identity stems from its relationship with a high-altitude wine-growing landscape, characterised by the presence of the volcano, historic terraces and lava-based soils that give rise to wines with a strong sense of place. In this setting, viticulture retains a traditional, labour-intensive character, with old vines trained using the Etna alberello method and a particular focus on indigenous grape varieties.
Work in the vineyard focuses on the grape varieties most representative of Etna, in particular Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante. The area’s natural conditions – including altitude, ventilation, temperature variations and volcanic soils – help to produce grapes that ripen slowly and possess a marked expressive intensity. The agronomic management approach enhances the heritage of the historic vineyards and maintains continuity with local farming traditions, whilst never losing sight of precision and stylistic purity.
Tenuta di Fessina’s wines interpret Etna as a terroir that strikes a balance between energy and finesse. The wines tend to emphasise freshness, minerality, aromatic clarity and an elegant structure, allowing the character of the vineyards and grape varieties to emerge naturally. The result is a consistent, recognisable style that is deeply connected to Mount Etna, capable of conveying a volcanic, unpretentious and luminous Sicily.
