Tenuta San Francesco
Tenuta San Francesco is a Campania-based producer based in Tramonti, on the lush, inland side of the Amalfi Coast, where viticulture is deeply rooted in the local terroir. Its identity stems from its connection to the Tramonti sub-zone of the Amalfi Coast DOC and to a landscape of steeply sloping terraces, nestled between the mountains and the sea. Here, the influence of the Amalfi Coast and the tramontana winds contribute to a temperate climate, whilst the clayey soils, containing pumice and volcanic ash, give the wines a distinctive character that is firmly rooted in the terroir.
The estate’s vineyards include historic pre-phylloxera vines, some of which are over a century old, alongside vines trained using both traditional and contemporary methods. The focus is primarily on indigenous grape varieties such as Tintore, Piedirosso, Pepella, Ginestra, Biancatenera and Biancazita, alongside more widespread Campania varieties such as Falanghina, Biancolella and Aglianico. The approach in the vineyard prioritises environmental protection, the reduction of plant protection products and practices inspired by non-certified organic viticulture.
The wines of Tenuta San Francesco offer an authentic expression of Tramonti: reds with a distinctive character, underpinned by the Tintore grape and the region’s historic varieties, and whites that convey freshness, Mediterranean aromas and a mineral edge. This stylistic consistency is rooted in the preservation of ancient vineyards and the cultural continuity of a viticultural tradition that draws on the coast, the mountains and rural heritage.
