Unterortl - Castel Juval
Unterortl - Castel Juval is situated on the hill of Juval, in the lower Val Venosta, in a part of South Tyrol where viticulture interacts with steep slopes, varying exposures and a landscape shaped by the interplay between the alpine environment and the drier influences of the valley. The location of the vineyards, below Castel Juval and near Naturno, helps to define a very distinct identity: soils derived from granite and gneiss, the slopes’ rapid ability to warm up and constant ventilation create conditions favourable to slow ripening, crisp aromas and a lively palate.
Agricultural work is based on careful management of the raw material and certified organic viticulture. The steep slopes limit the use of machinery and make manual care of the vines essential, in a setting where south-eastern exposure, warm days and cool nights foster balance, freshness and aromatic precision. Riesling, Pinot Bianco, Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Noir find a particularly expressive environment here, capable of conveying the minerality and structure typical of the highest and windiest areas of the Val Venosta.
The wines’ style emphasises clarity, tension and a distinct sense of place. Unterortl - Castel Juval interprets South Tyrol with a minimalist, mountainous profile, where the character of the Juval hill emerges through well-defined, mineral and luminous wines, built more on finesse than on power, with an expressive consistency linked to the nature of the vineyards and their microclimate.
