Vigneti Massa
Vigneti Massa is a winery based in the Colli Tortonesi, in south-eastern Piedmont, rooted in the hills of Monleale and deeply connected to the revival of the Timorasso grape variety. In an area where Piedmont, the Ligurian Apennines and the Alessandria plain meet, the producer cultivates a diverse agricultural landscape, where vines grow alongside woods, meadows and various crops, helping to define a recognisable and distinctive regional identity.
The expressive heart of the winery is Timorasso, a native white grape variety of the Colli Tortonesi, historically fragile and not widely grown, but now central to the appellation and to the name Derthona. The winery’s interpretation highlights its structure, acidity, body and ageing potential, producing wines with a savoury, deep profile, often characterised by mineral tension, citrus notes, hints of herbs, ripe fruit and a dry finish. Alongside the Timorasso, there is also room for traditional local varieties, particularly red ones, which are treated with the same attention to their origin and character.
The vineyards are situated on varied soils comprising clay, limestone, stone and sand, at hillside altitudes that encourage gradual ripening and good freshness. The viticultural approach is geared towards treating the raw material with respect; in the winery, spontaneous fermentation, ageing in steel and concrete tanks, and technical choices designed to preserve the vineyard’s identity, the fruit’s vitality and precise expression are the norm.
