The Sylvaner grape variety is first mentioned in 1665 when it was introduced to the Cistercian Abbey of Ebrach in Germany. According to DNA tests, it is derived from a natural cross between the Savagnin grape variety and the Österreichisch Weiss grape variety, which occurred more than 500 years ago.Read more
