Cesco di NeceAglianico Sannio DocSant'Agata dei Goti
Mustilli
Aglianico is considered one of the oldest grapes in Italy, according to some it was already present at the time of the Roman Empire and was imported in the eighth century BC from Greece. One thesis about the origin of the name is that it comes from the Greek word "ellanic." There are no certain sources on the origins of the name, and according to other experts, Aglianico derives from the Spanish "llano" meaning plain, consequently "grape of the plains," the thesis is supported by the fact that the earliest records of Aglianico date back to the 16th century, shortly after the Spanish invasion of southern Italy. The shape of the cluster is pyramidal of small to medium size, compact with small round berries of a very intense blue-black color. The thick skin allows it to resist botrytis by allowing late harvesting since it is a slow-ripening grape that grows at altitudes of 600-700 meters.Read moreSold out
