Terlano is situated on the sunny side of the Val d’Adige, amongst rolling hills and terraced vineyards sheltered by the Salto plateau. The altitude ranges roughly from 250 to 900 metres, creating a succession of exposures and microclimates suited to a diverse range of viticulture. The climate is mild and Mediterranean in character, with bright summers, dry autumns, breezy springs and marked temperature variations between day and night – essential for preserving freshness and aromatic definition.
The most distinctive geological feature is red porphyry, a volcanic rock that heats up easily and promotes good drainage, contributing to the wines’ pronounced minerality. The vineyards also feature sandy-loamy and partly stony soils, which vary according to altitude and location.
The area is particularly well-suited to white grape varieties, including Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, alongside Gewürztraminer and a few red grape varieties. Terlano’s wines are distinguished by their precision, crisp fruit, lively acidity and savoury depth. The winemaking tradition, documented for over two millennia, is complemented by meticulous vineyard management, including grape selection, bunch thinning and winemaking methods that respect the terroir.
